About The Company:

Thomson & Pratt Insurance Associates, Inc. was formed in 1994 as a woman-owned minority insurance brokerage operation. Its Chairperson & Chief Executive Officer is Margot Thomson Pratt, and its President and Chief Operations Officer is R. John Pratt. The business objective was to provide insurance brokerage expertise to small, medium, and large corporations that were interested in supporting minority-owned businesses.

In 1999, we decided to specialize in providing brokerage services to the fine arts community, and retained Tom Pratt, a recognized specialist in this field, to build a book of fine arts business for us.

Since that time, Tom has negotiated very favorable insurance contracts with major insurance companies specializing in fine arts and other collectibles. In less than 3 years our book has grown to more than $3,000,000 in annual premiums, with over 500 prestigious clients.

Margot Thomson Pratt, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer is responsible for overseeing all of our administrative functions. She brings to this position a strong background in educational and volunteer activities, having served on numerous boards in a variety of positions including the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles, California. She also has a strong background in art and art appreciation, and is an artist in her own right.

R. John Pratt, President and Chief Operating Officer has worked in the insurance industry for nearly 50 years. He has held senior management positions with such well-known companies as AON Corp., Johnson & Higgins, Alexander & Alexander, Frank B. Hall and the Chubb Group. His expertise in the field of insurance is unsurpassed. In addition, he serves as an expert witness on insurance related matters.

Tom Pratt, Director of Fine Arts has specialized in fine arts insurance for over 15 years with such firms as Allen Insurance Associates and Kaye Fine Arts & Special Risks Group. He is known throughout the art insurance world as "The Fine Art Guy". In 1984, he graduated from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) with a degree in Theatre Arts, and has studied Art History at Santa Monica College, UCLA and in Paris, France. In 1999, Tom launched the Fine Arts division of Thomson & Pratt and the department has grown more than 300% in less than 2 years. Civic activities are important to Tom. He was elected President of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education and was recently appointed to the Arts Commission for the City of Santa Monica. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Dean's Council for the School of Arts at CSUN, Social & Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) and Black Photographers of California. He is a member of California Lawyers for the Arts. Tom also is an expert witness for art insurance related matters.

Lynora Miller, Marketing Coordinator has more than 20 years of marketing experience for such companies as IBM Corporation and Los Angeles Times Corp.   Lynora also has great people skills, which she honed while working in the entertainment industry as a production manager, entertainment consultant and associate producer.  She was also a national champion tennis player, played professionally on the Avon circuit and before graduating from California State University, Northridge, she was a College All-American in tennis. Lynora also volunteers for Project Angel Food, delivering food to AIDS/HIV patients in the Los Angeles area.

Lynda K. Miller, Marketing Assistant has worked over 25 years in the insurance industry. She was employed by California Compensation, Fireman's Fund and Albert G. Ruben & Co. Inc. Her primary field of expertise was Entertainment Insurance as Policy Issuance Supervisor.  She was involved in all aspects of the business from policy writing, developing boiler plates, rating, coding to reconciling with accounting. Looking to round out her experience, she became a part-time assistant to Cynthia Snyder of Cynthia Snyder Public Relations as well as the right hand of Prepare Emergency Training Services in Los Angeles, California.

Laura Pratt, Director of New Business, has more than 25 years of insurance experience working within the insurance industry. Her background includes working for international insurance broker Marsh & McLennan as well as holding Risk Management positions for multi-million dollar companies. Laura began her insurance career after graduating in 1980 from University of California at Santa Barbara and obtaining her Corporate & Real Estate Law Paralegal Degree from University of San Diego. She has held Account Executive positions in brokerages specializing in Design Professionals, Real Estate Developers and Medical Malpractice. Currently, Laura is an instructor teaching Pre-Licensing Insurance Classes. She has volunteered her time with Foster Care children, Working Wardrobes, Habitat for Humanity and as Treasurer of St. John's Episcopal Church Altar Guild.
